How timely! I just returned from a 2500 mile trip from Moses Lake to Lander WY for the FSSNOC Rally. Had just changed from Mobil 1 Auto Synthetic Oil to Valvoline Synthetic 20-50 as I was expectin hot weather. The manual recommends 20-50 for temps over 85. The valvoline was rated both car (s) and commerical(c) so I was expecting to be happy with it. Used over a QT going to the Rally, had not used any before and since I fixed the rocker box plug leak. Weather was a surprise, cold 35 deg low maybe 45 high, rain snow, and hail going over. I added a QT of Torco Cycle synthetic and the oil I had with me there for the trip home, surprise again, didn't use any coming home, but it was hot, really hot, 98 in Vale Or and 105 in Pendleton. Also ran the slab more coming home rather than see the other side of the 2 laners but in the sun, faster but less grades and lower passes. 6000 ft vs 9500. My thoughts after many nights of thinking were cylinder distortion due to the cold and wet going over. The fairing directs a good blast of air over the engine when I hug the tank with my legs, otherwise it comes up in my face. Your thoughts on this surprise? Max
